Beyond advocacy, they are focused on championing African American culture on campus, whether it be in the form of cookouts with the Philly community or pop-up salons where local barbers and stylists do students’ hair. “Instead of waiting for people to leave Penn’s campus to find community when they go back home, there is community here as well,” Brooks said.
